Travel Themed Baby Shower

I was the first to called dibs on throwing the baby shower the moment I found out my good friend was expecting. I was so excited, I pretty much started planning in my head right away. Since, we're travel buddies and my friend travels a lot, I knew a travel theme was perfect for the baby shower. Also, my friend and I have this obsession with mint green, so the colors I choose were gray, mint green and yellow.

I spent all week making the decorations and banners. I borrowed a cricut machine and different cartridges from a friend to make all the decorations. I also was able to find some art decor at Target and Hobby Lobby.

For the fireplace mantle, I created a onesie banner with places the couple traveled together. I found the light up "F" at Michael's and decorated the inside with a travel theme cardstock paper. It was also a keepsake for the couple to use in the nursery. The Paris decor I found at Hobby Lobby a long time ago and it fit the theme perfectly. I was pretty lucky to find the "Oh, the Places You'll Go" decor at Target, it just so happen they had it and was the colors I was going to use.

One of the activities I did was a "create a onesie and advice station". I cut out a bunch of blank onesies and decor that guest can use to decorate the blank onesie. I didn't use actually onesies because babies grow out of their clothes quickly and I didn't want all those decorated onesies go to waste. Also, my friend scrapbooks, so all these decorated onesies could go into her baby scrapbook.
The finished decorated onesies were then hung on the wall.... So sad I didn't take a pick when it was full of the decorated onesies. It looked super cute.

Since I sent evites to the baby shower, my friend wasn't going to have a baby shower invitation for a keepsake. So, I made a boarding pass invitation for her. I found a 16x20 frame at Michael's for $10 bucks and put the invitation, a pic of her ultrasound and her Facebook announcement on and had guests sign around on the black matte.

The posters were about $1.50 each from Hobby Lobby and you can see the "guestbook" I made my friend.

My awesome husband helped me make this incredible hot air balloon diaper cake for the baby shower. This idea took a while before it came to fruition because I kept being indecisive on what to do.... suitcase, hot air balloon, both, etc. Then finally my husband was like I can use wire hangers to make the "stand" to hold the "balloon". After my husband made the "stand" I had him wrap the wires with mint green washi tape. I used the washi tape in the middle tier as well and glued passport stamps around it. I think the cake was my favorite.
I used 34 size 2 diapers for the bottom tier, 24 size 1 diapers for the middle tier and rolled 9 size 1 diapers for the top tier. I arranged the 9 rolled diapers into a square shape and inserted the wires in the four corners. I bought a 8" paper lantern from Target and had my husband paste strips of yellow and silver tissue paper.
I had one of my friend's friend make the passport stamps, which I used to make bundt cake toppers. I was very happy how the passport stamps came out. The stamps itself were 1" circles and the backing were 1 3/4" circles.
I really enjoyed throwing this baby shower for my good friend. It was my first and I wasn't sure when will be the next time I will have the opportunity to throw another one, so I went all out. I kept telling my friend that I need more friends who are expecting, so I can do this again.
